Perth-Based Artist RHY Unveils Sweet Summer Indie Pop-Rock Bop "Thai Milk Tea"

Perth/Boorloo-based indie pop artist RHY unveils a sweet summer bop "Thai Milk Tea”, set to release on November 16th, 2023.

Following the success of previous single “About You” featuring Melbourne/Naarm artist Jewel Owusu in September, and of course his debut EP "DUMB FUNK" in July 2022, RHY continues to captivate audiences with his honest brand of sugary indie pop-rock. Notably, his talent has garnered recognition from esteemed corners of the industry, including being handpicked by The Jungle Giants as a victor of Smirnoff's Ads for Artists competition, a single release under the prestigious French-Japanese label Kitsuné Musique, Triple J airplay and playlist inclusions on Martin Garrix's 'Martin Garrix Radio' as well as numerous Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud editorial playlists. His upcoming single "Thai Milk Tea" is the second release from an anticipated EP in 2024, showcasing his unique blend of indie sounds.

The inspiration for "Thai Milk Tea" stems from RHY's fondness for Thai milk tea, drawing parallels to the sweetness of the classic Thai drink and the endearing qualities of his now-wife. The song’s minimal instrumentation and clever use of space allow RHY's vocals to take centre stage as he sings of the joy and carefree essence of the early stages of a relationship, yet somehow simultaneously his favourite beverage.

Reflecting on the track’s origin RHY shares “My songs rarely begin with lyrics, but I found myself singing the first line of the chorus to myself a while before I nailed down the musical elements, which set the stage for probably my most lyrically-driven song. I wanted to capture the feeling of a fresh relationship during the phase of dating where everything is new and exciting, like a sweet drink that you can’t put down. Of course I still feel the same way about my now-wife, but it’s always fun to reminisce on those early months.”

To celebrate the release, RHY has partnered with 'Streets Oasis', a local Thai restaurant (RHY’s favourite), for an exciting giveaway, offering a chance to win a delicious meal for two.

Looking forward, RHY has more releases on the horizon, and an EP planned for February 2024, followed by a string of Western Australian shows in 5-piece band format, promising fans an immersive live experience full of infectious energy and feel-good sounds.
