RHY’s ‘Calling Control’ EP Tackles Life at Face Value

Perth-based producer and songwriter RHY’s sophomore EP ‘Calling Control’ is marked by more questions than answers, encouraging listeners to relinquish control and enjoy life for what it is. The EP’s title track is set for release as a single on Jan 25th, with the full 5-track work to follow Feb 15th.

Building off the back of RHY's impressive debut EP ‘DUMB FUNK’ in 2022, 2023 saw RHY continue to showcase his unique blend of indie sounds and playful production style with the success of singles ‘Thai Milk Tea’ and ‘About You (ft. Jewel Owusu)’. Also featuring title track ‘Calling Control’ alongside ‘Socialite’ and ‘The Same’, 2024’s ‘Calling ControlEP fully demonstrates the artist’s musical versatility as it explores the many things out of his control.

His music has garnered recognition from esteemed corners of the industry, notably being handpicked by The Jungle Giants as a victor of Smirnoff's Ads for Artists competition, a single release under the prestigious French-Japanese label Kitsuné Musique, Triple J, RTR and ABC radio features, inclusion within Martin Garrix's 'Martin Garrix Radio' as well as numerous other Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud editorial playlists.

Reflecting on this EP’s creation, RHY shares “Thematically this EP is a mixed bag of ideas - I simply wrote about the various things that had been on my mind - though as I pieced each of the tracks together I found a common thread in the way I approached each topic. As I enter my mid-20’s and time begins to speed up I’m realising just how much is out of my control. There are circumstances, events, things about myself or others even, that I can’t or downright shouldn’t change. Musically these tracks were born of my chaotic studio experiments and developed with a fun assortment of alt-pop and indie-rock stylings.”

Music Video

Accompanying the EP’s title track - dubbed ‘an anthem for the chronically distracted’ - is a music video directed by Cedric Tang who has worked with artists such as Spacey Jane, PJ Morton and Tame Impala as well as been featured on Rolling Stone, MTV, NME and Triple J. The video depicts RHY unable to take in the world around him as his attention is entirely consumed by his phone.

Official video will premiering on Youtube Feb 8th here
